Last Friday, the First Team All Eastern Connecticut Conference players were announced and multiple Griswold Wolverines were selected. Among those were four seniors, , Bryce Mileski (Linebacker), and Dane Taylor (Defensive End), Zach Thetreault (Defensive End and Tight End), Davaughn Luty (Wide-Receiver). Being named to the All ECC team is one of the biggest honors for a football player in this conference. When Head Coach Gregg Wilcox was asked about having four of his senior players recognized for their efforts, he said of Dane Taylor, “he is a lineman who was a big part of both the offensive and defensive side of the ball.” About Zachary Thetreault, “He played Defensive End and Tight End. He’s a great leader and a player that made plays when we needed him to.” Wilcox also commented on Bryce Mileski saying, “He was a four year starter at linebacker and moved to running back this year after playing his first three years at quarterback. He was an important part of the team. We’re going to miss him. He’s a great athlete and a great kid.” Finally of Davaughn Luty, Wilcox said, “He was a big play kid; big part of the team. He was a large force on offense and defense; had breakaway speed, and was able to catch the ball in difficult situations.” When Coach Wilcox was asked about finishing the year on a high note against Plainfield on Thanksgiving he said, “The four seniors played very well and came up big on defense. We have pretty much the same team for next year, except for not having the three seniors, and have big things to look forward to.”
When the coach was asked to name some players that Wolverine fans should keep their eyes out for next season, he said to “watch for the linemen: Johnny Falco, Jayden Ellis, Stephen Sims, Cory Carr, Shamari Richards, and Damon Cain.” And the coach added that Andrew Koziol will begin his second year at quarterback, while Michael Sims is an outstanding Linebacker. These are just a few of the players to be looking for next season when the Wolverines will look to improve upon this year’s respectable 7-3 record.
