In the latest communication from Griswold Public Schools, it’s mentioned a recommendation is that students utilize a clear backpack to carry around their books and personal belongings since lockers will not be utilized during the 2020-2021 school year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Residents took to social media to try to make sense of this recommendation. The most common comment was that is was felt that they would be able to be sanitized better than conventional backpacks. The real reason is that it is being suggested for nothing more than school safety. This is not mandated. Students can use regular backpacks just like they always have.
As of now, teachers, administrators, and other leaders are still working on an open plan and with the new laws and executive orders that are in place. The plan that is in place currently was designed by the state and was sent to all schools within Connecticut.
