City of Norwich Issues Parking Ban During Winter Storm

NORWICH – The Norwich Police Department reminds residents, visitors, and motorists that the City of Norwich Traffic Regulation (Sec.# 9.82) prohibits parking on the odd side of all city streets during winter snow storms and the subsequent snow removal operations by the Public Works and Connecticut DOT Highway maintenance crews.

The narrowness of certain city streets requires that no parking be allowed on either side of the street (see attached list – page 2) in order to allow for safe and efficient snow removal operation by the highway maintenance personnel.

Vehicles found in violation of the winter storm-parking ban may be towed at the owner’s expense. Owners of vehicles violating the snow emergency parking ban are subject to a $25.00 fine, as well as the towing expense.

Property owners and occupants are reminded that they are required by City Ordinance (Sec. 19-1 and 19-2) to remove (or sand) all snow, sleet, or ice from the sidewalks abutting their property within Twelve (12) hours of the storm or within Six (6) hours after sunrise if the storm had occurred overnight .

.

The Police and Public Works Departments are requesting the cooperation of the public with the parking ban during winter storm emergencies so that the snow can be safely and effectively removed from our streets and highways making travel safer for all.
