CIAC Volleyball Championships – Griswold Advances, Plainfield Gets Eliminated

Griswold comes into this contest the ECC Champs after sweeping Wheeler, New London, and Wheeler last week. #11 seeded Griswold kept the momentum without losing a game to the #22 seeded Montville Indians on Monday night, 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-13) in round 1 of the CIAC State Championships.
Hanna Clark also continued her ECC championship MVP form with 17 assists, 6 aces, and 4 digs. Olivia Doyle also with a strong match with 16 digs and 2 aces. Sarah Aviles almost landed another double double with 8 kills, 8 digs, and an ace. The win is of course a team effort with all around great performances including Audrey Strmiska adding in 4 blocks and 4 kills and Kamryn Lathrop showing that she’s going to be a force to be reckoned with in the tournament as well as next year, 5 kills and 2 blocks.
Round 2 kicks off on 11/13 as the Lady Wolverines travel to Goodwin Tech in Hard Hittin’ New Britain as they face the #6 seeded Lady Gladiators. Goodwin Tech defeated the #27 seeded Vinyl Tech Lady Hawks from Middletown, 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-9).
Match time on Wednesday is 6 PM.
Other action in the Class S bracket saw #3 seeded Lyman Memorial get a first round bye and will face #19 Oxford after their 3-0 (25-23, 25-14, 25-19) victory over #14 Windham. Griswold would get the Lady Bulldogs If Lyman gets by Oxford on Wednesday.
In Class M action, #17 Plainfield was eliminated by #16 Ledyard in a contest of evenly matched teams. Ledyard did sweep 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-14).
