On July 13, 2017 at approximately 9:49 AM, Troop D Troopers were attempting to locate an individual at an address in East Putnam in regards to an earlier disturbance. When Trooper’s arrived at the residence, they discovered a door that had been damaged and when Troopers called in to the residence, no answer was returned. Troopers observed a young child that was in an overflowing diaper whose body was covered in flies and had bug bites on his/her lower extremities. Troopers entered the residence to check on the young child and observed numerous items of drug paraphernalia within the child’s reach scattered about the house. The accused, Kristen Corey (DOB 11/9/79) of Thurber Road, Putnam was located in a nearby bedroom passed out. It took Troopers several attempts to awaken Corey who was later placed under arrest and transported to Troop D. Corey was charged with risk of injury to a child and possession of drug paraphernalia and held on a $50,000 cash/surety bond and is to appear in Danielson Superior Court on 7/14/2017. DCF responded to the scene, opened their own separate investigation, and ultimately took custody of the child.
