On 06/21/2016 at approximately 5:10am the Plainfield Police Department responded to a one-car versus utility pole motor vehicle accident that occurred on River St in the Central Village section of Plainfield. Upon officers’ arrival, the vehicle (a 2000 Ford Explorer) was in the road way with extensive front-end damage fully engulfed in flames and entangled in utility wires. The operator of the vehicle, Ibrahim Kamara (AGE 23 of Danielson, CT), was removing the passenger of the vehicle, Elijah Collins (AGE 22 of Norwich, CT), who was unconscious at the time. Members of the Central Village Fire Department extinguished the fire and the American Legion Ambulance Corps transported Collins from the scene to the Backus Emergency treatment facility for further medical attention of non-life threatening injuries. Eversource Utilities and Frontier Communications remained at the scene for several hours as repairs were being made to the utility pole and wires. Kamara was taken into custody at the scene for Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol and/or Drugs and Failure to Maintain Proper Lane. Kamara was released from custody on bond and is scheduled to appear in the Danielson Superior Court on July 5, 2016. The accident remains under investigation at this time.
