Car Strikes Officer While on Traffic Assignment In Moosup

On 12/06/18 at approximately 9:49 AM the Plainfield Police Department dispatch center was contacted by an officer reporting that he had been struck by a vehicle while working a traffic assignment on Snake Meadow Road in the Moosup section of town. The officer who was identified as Sgt. Todd Shaw reported that a white 2011 Dodge Caliber approached his traffic post at a high rate of speed and he attempted to stop it. He said that the vehicle suddenly accelerated as he approached it and as it passed him struck him with the driver’s side mirror. The vehicle continued on and was stopped by another officer working a traffic detail in close proximity to Sgt. Shaw. The operator who was identified as 79 year old Faith Mary Allenby of Danielson, reported that she had no idea she struck the officer. Sgt. Shaw transported himself to the Plainfield Backus Emergency Room for evaluation. Allenby was cited for striking a police officer with a motor vehicle while engaged in traffic control. Sgt. Shaw was released after receiving treatment for minor injuries.
