At approximately 10:09 P.M. while on patrol, members of the Plainfield Police Department observed concerned citizens on Prospect Street in Moosup, CT. Upon making contact with the citizen they informed officers of an alarm they could hear an alarm coming from the abandoned boarded up building located at 40-44 Prospect Street.
As Officers approached the rear of the building, they observed the board that was covering a door was removed and the door open. An Officer then saw an individual inside later identified as Bourque attempting to start a fire. Bourque disregarded the Officers commands and fled on foot into an unknown location inside of the building where Officers pursued.
Once inside Officers could smell a strong odor of something burning and gasoline. Bourque was subsequently located in the basement hiding under the stair case. Bourque refused to exit from under the staircase and had to be extricated by Officers and was placed under arrest.
Members of the Moosup Fire Department responded to the scene to extinguish a smoldering fire and assist with looking for anybody else in the building.
An investigation was then conducted by the Plainfield Police Department with the assistance of the Plainfield Fire Marshal’s Office and the Connecticut State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit with an Accelerant Detection K-9.
Bourque was charged with Arson 3rd Degree, Interfering with Police, Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree and Criminal Trespass 3rd Degree. Bourque is currently being held on a $100,000 bond at the Plainfield Police Department pending his arraignment at the New London Superior Court, G.A. 10, on May 4, 2020.
