American Legion Ambulance Responds to 2 Car Accident in Plainfield

On January 27, 2017 at approximately 4:30 P.M., members of the Plainfield Police Department were called by Samatha Jaramillo (DOB 07/20/1995) of Central Village, CT who reported witnessing a two car motor vehicle collision in the area of East Main Street and 395 exit 32. , Members of the Central Village Fire Department and American Legion Ambulance also responded to the scene.
Stephanie Phillips (DOB 05/23/1999) of Sutton, MA was operating a 2000 Chevy Silverado pickup when she was exiting 395. Phillips was waiting for traffic traveling west bound to pass her before crossing East Main Street to travel east bound. Eric Schmidt (DOB 04/12/1961) was traveling westbound in his 2015 Subaru Forester. Phillips attempted to make a left hand turn which included her crossing the westbound travel portion of the roadway and struck Schmidt’s vehicle in the right quarter panel causing him to spinning around. Schmidt came to a stop facing eastbound in the westbound lane. Phillips and her passenger Selena Perez (DOB 07/24/1997) of Moosup, CT declined medical treatment. Schmidt was transported by American Legion Ambulance to Day Kimball Hospital.
Upon speaking to Jaramillo she said she was waiting for oncoming traffic when she observed Phillips enter the travel portion of the roadway and strike Schmidt.
Phillips was found at fault for Failure to Grant Right Away at an Intersection.
