Adult Activities in Voluntown and Library Expansion

Winter programs for adults and ages 16 and up are starting very soon. The Voluntown Recreation Commission will be commencing classes in Zumba and recreation volleyball in the next 2 weeks.

 

Adult Recreation Volleyball

Where: Voluntown Elementary School Gym When: Thursday’s, Jan. 14, 21, 28, Feb. 4, 11, 18, 25, March 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31st Time: 6:45 pm – 8:15 pm

 

Zumba Classes

Where: Voluntown Baptist Church When: Monday’s, January 18, 25, Feb 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29 Time: 6:00pm – 7:00 pm Ages 16 and up $30 Voluntown residents, $40 non residents

The Voluntown Public Library is bursting at its seams.

With no meeting room or dedicated children’s room, the Voluntown Public Library has outgrown the former post office in now occupies. The Voluntown Public Library opened in 1996.

Cathy Rubin, the Library Director at the Voluntown Public Library, has worked with library staff and The Friends of the Library to set up a GoFundMe page. Through this page it is hoped to raise the $250,000 needed to match grant funding for a wanted library addition.

A committee has been set up by the Selectmen to plan the design and research a final cost estimate for a library addition. This committee will report to the Selectmen when finished, then the project will be proposed to the town for vote.
