2 Year Investigation of Drug Overdose Case Leads to Manslaughter Charges

On Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at approximately 1825 hours, Troop K in Colchester received a report of an unresponsive 49-year-old male with a hypodermic needle in his hand, located in an apartment on Plains Road in the town of Windham, CT. This 49-year-old male was pronounced deceased on scene from an apparent overdose, with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner later determining the cause of death to be “accute heroin and cocaine intoxication”. Detectives from the Eastern District Major Crime.
Unit assumed this investigation. After an extensive two year investigation, it was determined that 38 year old Teresa Ann Deriso provided the narcotics to this deceased male. It was also determined that Deriso was using these narcotics with the deceased male, and she also injected the male with a syringe containing narcotics, as he was unable to do so himself. Probable cause was developed that the actions of Deriso led to the overdose death of the 49-year-old male, and Deriso was arrested for 1st degree Manslaughter, possession of narcotics, and others. Deriso is currently in jail in the state of New York for unrelated charges however was brought to Danielson Superior Court to be arraigned in front of a judge where a bond of $250,000 was issued for these charges.
