Retired Fire Captain In Critical Condition After Head On Collision Courtesy of Drunk Driver

A retired fire captain is in critical condition at Hartford Hospital after a head on collision on Route 14 in Scotland Tuesday evening after a driver hit him head on. 63 year old Dana Barrow Jr of Scotland was traveling on Rte 14 in the vicinity of Huntington Road at approximately 7:45 PM Tuesday evening when a 2012 Honda Pilot driven by 40 year old Melissa Carducci-Brooks of Coventry suddenly crossed in front of Barrow’s 2007 Chevrolet Impala.

Barrow could not avoid the collision even after hitting the brakes.

Carducci-Brooks was taken to Backus Hospital and Barrows was taken to Windham Hospital then flown to Hartford Hospital via Life Star Helicopter and listed in critical condition.

Carducci-Brooks was charged with Driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, failure to maintain proper lane, as well as failure to have minimum insurance. She was released and scheduled to appear in Danielson Superior Court on June 2, 2020
