Connecticut’s Democratic senators are proposing to increase the state’s minimum wage to $12 an hour by 2020.
The senators proposed the change as part of a late-session amendment Thursday evening. Connecticut just raised the minimum wage to $9.60 an hour this year, a $0.50 an hour increase. The minimum wage is already slated to rise to $10.10 an hour on January 1, 2017. The Connecticut legislature is already under pressure to increase the wage even further than the already approved $10.10, and this session, introduced a bill calling for $15 an hour by 2022.
Republican senators took issue with the majority Democrats proposing another wage hike at a time when businesses are leaving Connecticut.
